Scholarship Awarding Policy

Introduction

The VIHS Scholarship Program is established to recognize and reward exceptional academic performance in O Level/IGCSE/SSC or equivalent examinations, as well as outstanding achievements in sports and co-curricular activities recognized by the Ministry of Education’s Activity Calendar. This policy outlines the eligibility criteria, selection procedures, and terms and conditions for awarding scholarships.

A)   Free education- Qasim Ibrahim Scholarship for Excellence (QISE)

B)    Brilliant Student Scholarships (BSS)

C)   Sports and Co-curricular Scholarships (SCS)

 

 

A- Free education- Qasim Ibrahim Scholarship for Excellence (QISE)

Introduction

The Qasim Ibrahim Scholarship for Excellence is established to recognize and reward outstanding academic achievement in the Maldives O’Level National Top Ten rankings, while supporting the pursuit of advanced education at VIHS.

Benefits

  • Each recipient will be granted full tuition fee exemption.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Ranked 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the National Top Ten list of SSC and IGCSE O’Level Examinations, as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • Must be an officially registered student of VIHS.
  • Selection will be based strictly on merit, according to the official ranking.
  • If more than 30 students qualify with equal scores, a lottery (random draw) will be conducted to finalize the 30 recipients.

 

 


B- Brilliant Student Scholarships (BSS)

Introduction

This merit-based scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement in their O Level, IGCSE, SSC, or equivalent examinations. It aims to recognize high-performing students and support their continued academic excellence at VIHS.

 

Eligibility and benefits

This scholarship is merit-based and awarded to students with high academic achievement in their O Level/IGCSE/SSC or equivalent examinations. Evaluation will be based on the best eight subject grades, using the following point scale:

To be eligible:

  • Applicants must score a minimum of 410 points.
  • Must enroll in Dhivehi, Islam, and at least three subjects (Edexcel/Cambridge IAL) at VIHS.

Note: If the number of eligible candidates exceeds 90% allocated scholarship budget, recipients will be selected through a lottery draw.

 

 


C- Sports and Co-curricular Scholarships (SCS)

Introduction

This scholarship recognizes and supports students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in co-curricular and competitive activities. The scholarship aims to encourage continued excellence, dedication, and active participation beyond the classroom.

 

Eligibility and benefits

This scholarship is awarded to students who achieved 1st or 2nd place in individual/team events in inter-school or national level competitions recognized in the Ministry of Education's Activity Calendar during Grade 9 or 10.

  • Award amount: MVR 500 per month
  • A student winning multiple competitions will still receive a maximum of MVR 500 per month.
  • This category is limited to 10% of the total VIHS scholarship budget.
  • If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the budget, selection will be made via a lottery draw.

 

 

 


Application Deadline

Students must apply for the scholarship during the online application process before the start of Semester 1.


Scholarship Budget

The total scholarship budget for Categories B and C is limited to 2% of the total fee revenue generated by the respective batch of students.

 


Commencement of Scholarship Benefits

Scholarship financial benefits will begin from the start of Semester 1.


Terms and Conditions for all scholarships

  1. Students must apply for the scholarship during the online application process before the start of Semester 1.
  2. Students eligible for multiple scholarships will receive only the higher-value award.
  3. QISE and BSS recipients must maintain a minimum attendance of 80% in five subjects each month. Failure to meet this requirement in any subject will result in the discontinuation of the scholarship.
  4. QISE and BSS recipients must maintain a minimum average grade of B in five subjects each semester.
  5. QISE and BSS recipients are required to continue studying Dhivehi, Islam, and at least three other subjects, and must appear for A Level terminal examinations. CPE, CAE, and Mandarin are not counted among the five subjects considered under this clause.
  6. Sports and Co-curricular Scholarship recipients must study a minimum of three subjects, maintain at least 80% attendance, and achieve a grade of D or above in all three subjects to continue the scholarship.
  7. All scholarship recipients remain liable for the application fee, registration fee, annual activity fee, and any additional charges not mentioned in this policy; such costs are not covered under the scholarship.
  8. Termination -Failure to meet the conditions outlined in Clauses 3, 4, 5, and 6 at the end of every semester will result in the termination of the scholarship.
